Black Music Month Celebration

IMG_1865 (1).jpg

The United States has been celebrating Black Music Month in June since 1979. The month of June is set aside to appreciate the contributions of African-American musicians, composers, singers, and songwriters in American culture. The month honors the history and rich African traditions that gave birth to different styles of music such as rap, hip-hop, jazz, rhythm and blues, barbershop, and swing. It is also the month to celebrate creative inspiration and appreciate the impact that African-American music has had on generations of performers and music lovers!

Forward Visions, Inc. has celebrated Black Music Month Celebration at McCulloch Park evey June since  2020 by providing great free music in the park for the community.   We bring bands that play jazz, blues, hip hop and rhythm and blues.  Forward Visions also provides music scholarships thanks to sponsorships from Indiana Michigan Powr, JDAI, United Way, Old National Bank, an ARP Funds our Youth in Muncie Delaware County since  2021.  Music can help teens define who they are and build their identity. It can also provide a skill or hobby that teens can be proud of and music education can contribute to improved creativity and confidence.
